At Kings Junior High ○ Three teams for 7 th grade (7 Red, 7 White, & 7 Blue) ○ School hours 7:50 am - 2:25 pm ○ Seven bells per day ▪ Four core academic classes - Math, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies ▪ Two encore classes each day ▪ One lunch period for all 7 th grade students ▪ Homebase daily

Academic Support at KJH Quest ○ Supports students in Language Arts and/or Math ○ Builds skills that will translate into success in other classes ○ Students will be placed in Quest based on MAP scores, AIR scores, and teacher recommendation ▪ Scores used for placement indicate that students are not on track to pass state assessments, EOC Exams or receive college ready scores on ACT/SAT without intervention ○ Mandatory class for those who qualify ▪ Qualifying students received a letter ○ Quest is a two-semester class, and will take the place of an encore ▪ Students’ progress will be tracked and students that meet performance goals will be able to choose an encore to take in its place
Honors and Accelerated Classes ○ Students are placed in advanced classes based on the following information: ▪ Common classroom assessments ▪ AIR scores ▪ MAP scores ▪ Grades ○ In order to request a change in placement (a placement that was not recommended) ▪ Fill out a Course Placement Change Request Form and turn it into your counselor
Daily Core Academic Courses ○ Core classes will be taken within a student’s team ○ Core classes include: ▪ Language Arts (or Accelerated LA) ▪ Math (or Accelerated 7th Grade Math, or High School Honors Algebra) ▪ Social Studies ▪ Science Beginning with the Class of 2022, all courses taken for High School Credit will remain on a student’s transcript. *The only course that fits this criteria in 7th grade is Honors ALgebra I
Encore Classes ○ Encore classes will either be Year-Long or Semester courses ○ Required Encores • Students will be notified if they should select Guided Intervention or Quest • NO other required encores at KJH ○ Alternate Choices • When selecting encores, students should have alternate choices in mind and write these on their Course Selection Sheet ○
More on Selecting Encores ○ Students need to fill TWO bells in each semester. This can be achieved through the following combinations: • Two all year classes • One all year class and two semester classes • Four semester classes ○ Some encore classes are offered in 8th grade for High School Credit • High School Spanish I - 7th grade students interested in this course MUST take Intro to Spanish • Health • PE • Integrated Computer Applications
Year Long Encore Classes ○ Choir ○ Band ○ Percussion ○ Strings ○ Guided Intervention (students with IEPs) ○ Quest (based on scores & teacher recommendation) Based on District & State data, as well as teacher recommendation, some students will be required to participate in an intervention course. (QUEST or Guided Intervention.)
Semester Encore Classes ○ Art ○ Physical Education ○ Health ○ Intro to the Spanish Language ○ Project Lead the Way: Design & Modeling and Automation & Robotics ○ 21st Century Technology Skills
