RECENT CASES 4 Security company sentenced for generator death failings • Lone security guard died from carbon monoxide poisoning • A petrol generator was being used inside a derelict building he was guarding • No safe systems of work or adequate lone working procedures. After the hearing, HSE inspector Melvyn Stancliffe commented: “This was a tragic and completely avoidable death that has devastated his wife, family and friends. Their loss is made worse by the fact he was only covering the night shift as a one off, but sadly never returned home. February 2014
