District Needs Assessment ● Discuss format used ● Who conducted the survey on behalf of the district, and why ● Review results ● Comments and recommendations Recommendation: Look for additional means of communicating to parents and patrons, in current ways that they consume information. Create additional opportunities for parent and student input on school related matters

Code of Conduct, Bullying/Harassment, Character Education ● Review of Current Code of Conduct ● Bullying and Harassment ○ Rules and Expectations ○ Protocols for Reporting ○ Goals ● Character Education ○ Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports ○ Character Counts ○ Hands and Words Are Not For Hurting Project ○ Olweus ○ Connections (high school)/Homerooms (middle school) ○ Positive Notes to Home ○ Toodles ○ Second Step ○ Cyber-bullying

Student Achievement Data, Info, Goal Setting Input ● Principal Reports on Current Building Level Goals ● Iowa Assessment Data 2011-Present ● ACT Data 2011-Present ● Additional building level student achievement data. ● Current district wide student achievement goals and how those impact building level goals and Individual Career Development Plans for teachers ● Get into small groups (be prepared to report out to the large group) ○ What does this data tell us? ○ Areas to target for improvement? Recommendations: Maintain the current district goals, look to raise the percent proficient in the goal if and when appropriate to continue to encourage growth.

  6. Early Childhood/Preschool Programs ● Head Start Partnership (in Alta) ● Statewide Voluntary Preschool (in Alta and Aurelia) ○ Creative Curriculum Gold ● Early Childhood Special Education (in Alta) ● Transitional Kindergarten (5 year old program in both Alta and Aurelia) ● Partnerships with Community Day Care Centers/Before and After School Programs (in Alta and Aurelia)

  7. Wellness Policy Review Policy 507.9 (Report Document) No changes or additions recommended by the committee. A review of the reports on goals was approved by the committee

  8. Review of Attendance Center Data ● Race, National Origin, Gender, Disability Get into small groups. Review the course enrollment data presented individually, then discuss in your group. Be prepared to share out on the following questions: ● What jumps out? ● Areas we are doing well in terms of balance ● Areas we need to improve, or focus on? ● Suggestions for improvement, general comments

  9. Proposed Student Handbook Changes As presented by the building principals. Looking for input and feedback from the committee Notes: High School is reviewing graduation credits and courses for possible future changes. No changes to Middle School handbook. Elementary principals will work to align the elementary handbooks for consistency.

  10. Review Draft 2019-20 Master Calendar Looking for feedback and input Recommendation: Present calendar option #5 to the school board for approval.

  11. Career and Technical Education (CTE) ● Business Education ● Family Consumer Science ● Industrial Technology ● Agricultural Science ● Auto (through ICCC) ● Other offerings ● All of our CTE programs articulate with Iowa Central CC ● CTE Redesign
