  7. IBU is… Intensive Behavior Unit What is the IBU?  The IBU is a small, highly-structured, supportive environment designed to assist students in transitioning back to their home school following hospitalization during the school year. Why is there an IBU?  Some students, who receive special education services and who have been hospitalized, need a setting to help them gradually transition back into the comprehensive high school setting. How do students enter the IBU?  The IBU referral form is completed by the home school. The referral is sent to WHS for review by the IBU staff. An IEP meeting is held at the home school to determine appropriateness. 7

  8. IBU Statistics  Total of 9 students this school year placed in IBU  1 student returned to their home school  5 students were placed in Regional BEST through the IEP process  3 students were BEST students at time of placement 8

  9. Summary…  Services have better met student needs  Students have successfully transitioned to regionalized location  Parent involvement has increased  Students are more invested in their education  Students are more career-ready  Decrease in hospitalizations  No students were placed in alternative settings  No students were placed in non-public settings 9
