  1. HOW WE CAN HELP? A SHORT SLIDE-SHOW ABOUT MIGRATION CRISIS AND A DISCUSSION REGARDING TO POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS OF HOW WE CAN SOLVE IT

  2. WHAT IS A MIGRATION CRISIS? The European migrant crisis, also known as the refugee crisis, is a period beginning in 2015 characterised by high numbers of people arriving in the European Union (EU) from across the Mediterranean Sea or overland through Southeast Europe following Turkey’ s migrant crisis. It is part of a pattern of increased immigration to Europe from other continents which began in the mid-20th century and which has encountered resistance in many European countries. Immigrants from outside Europe include asylum seekers and economic migrants. The term "immigrant" is used by the European Comission to describe a person from a non-EU country establishing his or her usual residence in the territory of an EU country for a period that is, or is expected to be, at least twelve months. Most of the migrants came from Muslim-majority countries, including the Greater Middle East and Africa, to regions of South and East Europe.

  3. WHAT PROBLEMS DOES THE EU FACE? While 700,000 refugees wait in chaos on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea in the hope of reaching Europe, confusion reigns on the other side. There is a profound lack of means, ideas, and laws to safely distribute these desperate migrants among the 28 member states of the European Union. Furthermore, among the authorities, there is a clear inability to distinguish between refugees and economic migrants etc. Which of these migrants are in search of employment, and which of them simply just look for a place to stay with high hopes of going back home? When these immigrants are accepted, many countries do not possess the ability to integrate them within their own societies. Often, immigrants end up confined in camps and ghettos. Many of them face severe problems created by their own cultures, which are frequently so very different from Western cultures and may even be antagonistic to European principles. The issue of absorbing immigrants into Europe has continued growing, creating new politics and societies, and affecting the continent’s entire future. The issue of refugees and migrants still raises overwhelming questions, and the problems are still immense. For this reason, it is worthwhile examining this issue.

  5. BUT HOW ACTUALLY WE CAN IMPROVE THE REFUGEES SITUATION IN EUROPE?

  6. WE TOOK THE RISK AND ORGANISED A SMALL DEBATE ON OUR ENGLISH CLASSES, WHICH WAS MEANT TO GIVE US ANSWERS TO THIS BIG QUESTION

  7. AND HERE THERE ARE SOME SOLUTIONS THAT WE CAME UP WITH AT THE END OF OUR DISCUSSION: • Establish better asylum procedures across Europe • Focus more on ending the war in Syria, Libya and other countries which are struggling with it • Provide economic alternatives in smuggling communities to reduce the numer of illegal human transfers • End repression and extremism in Eritrea and Afghanistan • Develop more non-profit organisations which can provide widely understood help • Provide a safe and swift alternative of legal ways of travelling overseas to the EU, to a meaningful number of refugees

  8. CAN YOU DO SOMETHING TO CHANGE REFUGEES SITUATION? THE ANSWER IS SIMPLE: OF COURSE YOU CAN! BUT HOW? • Become a volunteer in an organisation that takes care of refugees in your country • Donate small amounts of money regularly to charities looking after refugees • Encourage your school/University to offer a refugee scholarship programme • Host refugees in your home before they can find their own place to live • Raise awareness about refugees and their tough situation to give people in your surroundings a better insight and understanding to the problem
