  2. Minor Injuries and Illness Units (MIIUs) MIIUs offer timely support to people with urgent, but not life-threatening, healthcare needs, including: • sprains • cuts and wounds • skin problems i.e. rashes, bites, stings, infections • minor eye injuries • minor fractures • minor head injuries

  4. MIIU performance 2015-16 99.8% treated & discharged 0 twelve hour in 4 hrs (target 95%) trolley waits (0) 2hrs 20 mins 17 mins before arrival to departure times assessment for ambulance (<4hrs) arrivals (<15mins) 21 mins 0.7% left without average time to treatment being seen (<5%) (<60 mins)

  5. Care Quality Commission (CQC) In June 2015, the CQC identified concerns regarding: • the number of qualified, experienced and skilled staff • the need for prompt assessment (“triage”) by a registered nurse • regular staff training • checks on equipment and medicines • organisational systems

  7. Options 1. Change the opening hours of all MIIUs to 8am-8pm 2. Change the opening hours of the MIIUs in Stroud and Cirencester to 8am-11pm 3. Change the opening hours of the MIIUs in Stroud and Cirencester to 8am-11pm, and also the one of the MIIUs in the Forest of Dean to 8am-8pm Given the challenges of overnight nurse recruitment and the low number of attendees after 11pm, a “Do Nothing” option was not deemed safe or viable

Main engagement • Pre-launch engagement with the Health and Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee and Healthwatch Gloucestershire • 8,000 information booklets + Freepost reply-paid cards • Visible displays in community hospitals • Booklets in public libraries and children’s centres • 18 public information events (195 attendees) • Booklets sent to all 84 GP surgeries - also promoted on GP screens • 10 staff events (78 attendees)

  10. Online • Information booklet and survey available online • Dedicated email address • Facebook advertising campaign with reach of 80,966 people, 1,573 of whom directly engaged • Twitter advertising and Twitter chats

  11. Outcome 1,170 responses from across the county

  12. Outcome Preferred option to maintain current MIIU opening hours with the exception of Cirencester and Stroud which will close at 11pm

  14. Decision • A proposal will be made by the Chief Operating Officer to support option 2, and therefore make no changes to MIIU opening times except for the overnight service at Cirencester and Stroud • The decision will be made at the Trust Board on 20 September
