There are many different habitats on this earth. A habitat is the natural home or environment of an animal, plant, or any other organism. As you can imagine, different living things require different habitats according to their needs. Lets take a look at some of these habitats!
RAINFOREST A rainforest is a habitat. A rainforest is a forest that receives a lot of rain and that has very tall trees, found typically in tropical areas.
There are many animals that live in the rainforest. Some of these animals are tigers, monkeys, parrots, frogs, snakes, toucan, and insects.
DESERT Deserts are dry, and extreme. Deserts get less than 6 inches of rain per year. Deserts have very few plants, and it is not an easy place for animals to live. Animals who live here often have special features that help them survive.
Since the conditions in the desert are so harsh, there are not many animals that live there. However, a few that you might find are snakes, insects, mice, fox, coyotes, and hawks.
OCEAN Ocean is the entire body of salt water that covers more than 70 percent of the earth's surface. Oceans are by far the largest animal habitat on earth. The oceans are so huge it is hard for scientists to explore them.
Some ocean animals spend most of their life in the waters near the land. Others live most of their life in the deeper open ocean. Even though the open ocean is the largest habitat, it is estimated that only five percent of the world's animal species live there. Some of these animals are crab, fish, stingray, turtle, whale, starfish, octopus, and sting ray.
ARTIC The Artic is the regions around the North Pole. The Artic has extremely cold, snowy, and windy weather. The climate of the Arctic is characterized by long cold winters and short cool summers.
The artic is a very cold habitat, so the animals that live in the artic must be able to adapt to these very cold temperatures. Some of these artic animals include fox, hare, wolf, reindeer, moose, seal, walrus, narwhal, polar bear, and penguin.
Now you know all about QUESTION: different types of habitats and Can you think of any more habitats? their characteristics. Remember, all living things need a place to live that gives them shelter, food, water, and the right climate, and that is what a habitat is!
