  1. Govie Hour Wednesdays Starting September 25th

  2. You said, “we need more flexibility in our day.” And your Govie Leaders listened! With permission from administration and support from teachers, we present to you GOVIE HOUR

  3. What is Govie Hour? Govie hour is a 40 minute period held every Wednesday between second and third periods giving students the opportunity to access teachers and enrichment.

  4. How does it work in the schedule? 5. Why is this important to us? Govie hour gives us a chance to get ● Extra help ● Relearn material ● Make up tests ● Form relationships with peers and teachers ● Collaborate with other students on group projects ● Attend club or other activity meetings

  6. Where do I go? All students report to advisory for attendance right away.

  7. Where do I go? After attendance: ○ Students with a C- or lower stay in advisory to work on those classes needing their attention ■ Or they can get a pass from one of those teachers to get help ○ Students with C or above in all classes have options ■ stay and work in advisory ■ attend a Govie Hour meeting or enrichment activity

  8. How does it work if I want to leave advisory for Govie Hour? ● Show a Govie Hour pass to your advisory teacher. That pass allows you to leave to get academic help or, if your grades are average , go to an enrichment activity. ● You go straight to the other room - no stops at bathrooms or to see friends. ○ You stay in either your advisory or the other room for the whole period. ● If you don’t go where you were supposed to, you might not get to go next time.

  9. What if I get multiple passes from different teachers? You decide what is most important to work on.

  10. Where is my Govie Hour meeting? ● Some advisories are in a room different from their regular advisory rooms due to scheduling conflicts ● Ask on Tuesday to make sure you have the right room

  11. Passes ● Every student must have a pass to leave the room ● Only adults can issue passes ● You can request a pass from teachers before Wednesdays!

  12. What are the enrichment opportunities? ● Check the scrolling announcements on the TVs to see your options ● There will always be a physical activity in the gym with JRTOC, but if you get a pass to the gym you must bring tennis shoes and have C or higher in all classes ○ Check announcements for planned gym activity ○ Passes are available at lunches on Tuesday

  13. Hallways ● Govie Leaders will help you find your locations ● If students are in the hallways during Govie Hour and not using it, we won’t be able to keep it ● Keep hallways clear and take advantage of this opportunity to work, get help, and participate in school activities

  14. Questions and Room Assignments ● Ask an advisory teacher!
