Scope • Aimed at Fellows of small to medium sized practices (single or multi- disciplined) to: 1. provide clarity of current private practice operating environment 2. insights into growth opportunities; and 3. ways to develop robust partnerships

Operating Environment - Private Practice • Private Practice landscape • Significant opportunities in Community landscape • Greater focus on ‘exercise is medicine’ • Government focused on: cancer, mental health and obesity • Medicare Rebates unlikely to change in short-term • College is advocating across a number of ecosystems to change status-quo • Specialisation Mission of College • Key focus on growth and increasing relevance • Patient numbers, scope of practice and the treatment algorithm • Shifting Sands: AIS and Children's Hospital in Sydney
Potential Partners • General Practice • Chronic health disease, OA, public health SEM related issues • Allied Health practices • specialist advice and reciprocal working relationship • Insurance organisations/Motor Accident Authorities • workers comp assessments, medical adviser for case management • Universities • Registrar complete higher education through university training • Primary Heath Networks (PHNs) • Focus for SEM to compliment community medical care • Department of Defence • medical checks, patient treatment from work-related injuries
Potential Partners - Engagement Strategy • Is your Google maps address and contact up to date? • Set up a list of potential referral relationships – simplicity works best • Develop content on website so people can find you • Meet with a partner and educate them about what a SEM Physician • Set expectations around patient management/reporting • Give collateral for their reference/patient information (e.g. fact sheet) • Cultivate the relationship
Building Capacity • Taking on a Registrars • Good way to reduce clinical practice for succession planning • Especially important in rural and regional areas • Increase patient volume capacity • Additional revenue for practice to expand increased opportunities for team/sport coverage • Opportunity to specialise on specific niche medicine/special interest • Teaching is rewarding – bilateral • Wider community footprint/professional contacts • Seek advice from other ACSEP Training Supervisor • Speak to the College about accreditation process involved
Building Capacity • Infrastructure • Physical – enough rooms for consults • Admin – reliable front desk that delivers consistent service and patient rapport • Network – access to multi-disciplinary network such as allied health
