CHP Terminal Inspection Preventative Maintenance  What is Preventative Maintenance? - Scheduled inspection of a vehicle - Keeping vehicles in like new conditions - Looking for potential failures - Attention to detail Outcome = Safe and reliable vehicle Goal = Not to see the vehicle in the shop

  5. CHP Terminal Inspection Preventative Maintenance  What should be included on a PMI? Interior - Driver, passenger area’s, HVAC system, Wheel Chair Operation…. Exterior - Body, mirrors, windows, lights, wheels, tires…. Undercarriage - Brakes, Suspension, Drive train….. Engine Compartment- Fluids, belts, hoses, exhaust, intake systems, Fluid leaks, All electrical Documentation should include -Vehicle info -Date, mileage and type of inspection -Company name

CHP Terminal Inspection Record Keeping  Many fleets going paperless, check with inspector  Fleet tracking systems  Hard copy filing system Per vehicle- PM inspections, daily driver vehicle inspections (DVI) and vehicle repair orders. Must have available -DVIR 3 months -PM’s and other records 1 year

  8. CHP Terminal Inspection DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report)  Must have a system in place  Should include pre-trip, post-trip and copy for bus  Pre-trip and post-trip inspection must be turned in daily and examined for necessary repairs

  9. CHP Terminal Inspection Operations  Randomly selects drivers to compare pay hours to driving logs. Make sure you don’t go over the 12 hour driving limit  Have a system in place so logs are completed daily and reviewed  Keep records organized

ALL MUST BE CURRENT Pull notices must be submitted within 30 days of hire date. SAMBA Fleetwatch is a program used to track DMV records. Once in system notices are sent annually unless there is a major change  Make a spreadsheet to keep you on top of any expiring credentials

CHP Terminal Inspection  If you’re a new location contact your local CHP Motor Carrier  Get to know your inspector  All may differ slightly but follow the same protocols  Request their out of service criteria. North American Standard Out Of Service Criteria. Can be found in CVSA web site www.cvsa.org  Should always be ready for their visit  Inspections for Transit are annually  Only two ratings Satisfactory or Unsatisfactory  Terminal checklist available
