In line with GoR policy The Working Group is working to support the government’s vision for special needs education through inclusive education and s pecialist provision through activities in: IE and SNE training for educationalists in mainstream and • specialist settings Technical support in mainstream and specialist settings • Advocacy for access to quality education •
Update on Work Plan for 2012 • Map of provision and key contacts – complete • Engage in finalisation of GoR SNE Strategy – UNICEF support – VSO Parliamentary Volunteer – Consultation and finalisation by end November? • Increased joint work to promote IE and SNE technical capacity in the country – Plan mapping of disability issues in and out of school in Bugesera and Gatsibo – Preparing coordinated submissions to DfID Innovation Fund – IF team visited IE in Kamonyi and Muhanga – HI Technical Expert networking tour
Work Plan cont... • 4 joint monitoring/learning visits to a TTC, a Child Friendly School, an emerging inclusive school, and a specialist setting – Kamonyi visit planned – ‘inclusive’ District from ECD to 9YBE; wide participation including MP for disability, MINEDUC, RENCP members and development partners – MINEDUC hosted Burundi delegation on 5 day tour (KIE, special schools and inclusive schools) • Engage in EDPRS II – ESSP consultation process – every opportunity to contribute although SNE strategy yet to be finalised

Work Plan cont... • Sensitisation and capacity building of national structures e.g. inspectorate, exams board – Opportunity provided by review of Quality Standards – any update from RENCP on this? – HI planning a conference with Inspectorate (timed to contribute to above) – REB being engaged by members of the group – SEOs to be targeted in future
