Site Safety Plus • Developed from recommendations on safety in the 1980’s with emphasis on: – Planning process – Accident prevention – Communication , then – Evolving to incorporate new legislation and concerns - Six Pack, Health issues, CDM – Need for additional courses • supervisor and operative level training, TWC • And environmental good practice - SEATS • Aims to provide the industry agreed standard and encourage Safe, Efficient, Economic sites
Course Aims & Objectives • Developed for Construction Supervisors/Managers who will be able to: – Understand the need to protect the environment – Integrate environmental management systems into the management of the site – Understand the impact archaeology and heritage can have on the site – Be a responsible contractor and good neighbour
Content • Why the environment is • Ecology important? – Priority species – What is the environment? – Framework – Role of construction – Trees and hedgerows – Who polices? – Invasive species – Polluter Pays • Contaminated Land • Environmental – Definition management systems – Precautions – EMS e.g. 14001 – Identification – Environmental risk – CL:AIRE assessment – Aspects & Impacts – Source – Pathway - Receptor
Content • Waste Management • Good Neighbour – What is waste? – Statutory Nuisance – Duty of care and transfer – Community engagement notes – Considerate Contractors – Costs and types of waste Scheme (CCS) – Hazardous Waste • Protecting Our Heritage – Re-use on site – Archaeology – SWMPS – Treasure • Pollution prevention & – Heritage Water Management – Controlled waters • Exercises – Pollution Prevention, types – On each section and pathways • Exam – Water stress – Use minimisation – 25 Q multiple choice
