EPSRC Early Career Fellowship The Flexible fellowship up to 5 years basics In certain priority areas defined by EPSRC Covered: fellow’s salary; travel and networking funding; consumables; major equipment; research staff; co-applicants; technician costs etc. Timeline No deadlines, but submit at least 3 months before prioritisation panel Proposals prioritised at panels in Jan/Feb and July. Shortlisted candidates invited to interview 6 weeks later. Results announced (and fellowships start) in April or October.

Case for Support - hints • Try to make a story, not to just answer questions • Explain how the research is exciting and original • Identify potential problems/risks (better you than referees) and propose workable solutions • Keep track record relevant to your proposal • Write clearly and concisely • Add some helpful illustrations • Adhere to guidelines
Pathways to Impact • EPSRC takes Pathways to Impact very seriously! • Academic impact: through publications, conferences, data sharing • Knowledge exchange: meet representatives from industry on conferences; use existing networks, media relations teams, press and so on • Technology transfer: industrial collaborations, UMI3, spin-out company • Outreach • People • General economic and societal impact
Response to referees’ comments • 2 pages max; only a few days to respond • Don’t try to answer all questions posed by referees • Make a strong statement, address two main issues fully (1 page), and briefly discuss 3-4 additional points • Write positively (don’t apologise ) • Use the response to further support your application
