Pang, GBS, JP, Chief Judge of TOYP 2019 Judging Panel, Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, Deputy Managing Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited presents awards to eight young Hongkongers (Hong Kong, 9 December 2019) The award presentation ceremony and dinner of the 47 th edition of the Ten Outstand- ing Young Persons Selection (TOYP) was held in Admiralty at JW Marriott Hotel Hong Kong yesterday. Since 1970, TOYP Selection has been organized by the Junior Chamber International Hong Kong (JCIHK). This year, with the theme “Ignite Passion & Reach Beyond”, to embrace local young persons for their outstanding performance in their own fields, as well as their contribution to the society. The 2019 TOYP Judging Panel has honored eight awardees, who, while having vastly different experiences and backgrounds, all share a common drive to unleash positive energy and reached beyond their comfort zone. The nominees of TOYP 2019, aged between 21 and 40, came from five categories: “Civil and Social Services”, “Commerce and Industry”, “Education”, “Performing Arts/Sports/Culture and Arts” and “Professionals”. The initial screening interviews were conducted between July and August by the Selection Consultant, “Ernst & Young”, to verify the data contained in the nomination forms, and to examine the eligibility of each nominee. The short-listed nominees entered the final judging interview in September to meet a panel of five judges from various sectors. The judges in- clude the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board and the Deputy Managing Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited Dr. PANG Yiu-kai, GBS, JP , the former Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury of HKSAR Professor K.C. CHAN, GBS, JP , the former Secretary for Food and Health of HKSAR Dr. KO Wing Man, GBS, JP , Child education expert and the former chairperson of the Outstanding Young Persons’ Association Ms. MOK Fung Yee, Emily, MH, JP , and the founder of Social Ventures Hong Kong Mr. Francis NGAI Wah Sing . The eight prize winners of the 2019 TOYP include 1) Mr. CHAN Ho Yuen Daniel , Hong Kong’s first world champion of para-badminton and the Champion of Thailand Para-Badminton International, 2) Dr. CHENG Mina , the Associate Consultant in the Department of Surgery at Queen Elizabeth Hospital who developed the Three-in-one Medical Treat- ment “Hong Kong Protocol”, 3) Mr. NG Kwai Lun, Pasu , the Dissecting Laboratory Manager in the School of Bio- medical Science at The Chinese University of Hong Kong who promotes life and death education, 4) Mr. CHAN Kwan Yeung, Arnold , the founder of Teach For Hong Kong, who left investment banking and turned to education for the un- derprivileged, 5) Mr. Jeffrey Alterin ANDREWS , the city's first Indian Hongkonger registered social worker, 6) Mr. YAN Chak Kuen, Louis , the first Hong Kong Magician who runs a world tour, 7) Dr. YAM Cheuk Sing, Jason , the Associate Professor in Department of Ophthalmology & Visual Sciences at The Chinese University of Hong Kong who developed an effective treatment to help children with Myopia, and 8) Ms. KWONG Lai Ling, Louise , Hong Kong’s first Soprano performer in the Rome Opera House. The Chief Judge of the Judging Panel, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and the Deputy Managing Director of Jardine Matheson Holdings Limited Dr. PANG Yiu-kai, GBS, JP, congratulated the eight awardees of 2019 TOYPs for their achievements. He encouraged them to uphold the tradition of TOYP, the moral principles and the goodwill, to live a meaningful life and to participate in community services whenever they can. Mr. Zenith Lin, National President of JCI Hong Kong , was honored to know that all the 2019 TOYP awardees have received recognitions from different sectors. He believed that the eight elite young leaders, who came from a diverse background, share the same passion and dedication to create positive change to our community via making a difference and live an extraordinary life.
