District 99 Lacrosse Program Recommendations for the 2019-20 School Year
Recommendation Boys and Girls Lacrosse to be fully funded and recognized as district sports programs.
Administrative Regulation 6.195 Procedures for considering requests for the addition of a District-funded athletic program are as follows: 1. A parent, student, or staff member may initiate this process. A completed copy of the Proposal for the Addition of an Interscholastic District-Funded Athletic Program form including required signatures shall be due to the Athletic Director of the school in question by February 1st . 2. The Athletic Director shall also confer with the other Athletic Director to determine if the same sport is being proposed or is conducted at the District’s other campus. 3. At the direction of the Superintendent or designee, a study group may be convened to examine the request. The study group will submit a report that describes the feasibility of adding the District-funded athletic program to the Superintendent.
BOE-Policy 6.195-cont. Procedures for considering requests for the addition of a District-funded athletic program are as follows: 4. In considering a request to add a District-funded athletic program, the Board shall review the request and supporting documentation, evaluating all of the following factors: Upon consideration of these factors, the Board may determine to either approve the request and allocate District funding for the proposed program, or deny the request. Proposed programs that are denied approval to operate as a District-funded activity may either initiate a request to operate as a non-funded program or, if the program in question is a non-funded program at the end of its two year probationary period, apply for permanent status as a non-funded program.
Lacrosse at the District level: ● Recognized as non-funded D99 athletic teams in the spring of 2014 as Coop teams (IHSA)--The boys housed at DGS and the girls at DGN ○ Boys started in 2014 with 2 levels (50 players-no cuts); Girls started with 1 level (25 players-no cuts) ○ Currently: Boys expanded to 3 Levels (60+ players with cuts); Girls 2 levels (50+ players) ● Participation fee is $400/player in both boys and girls. ● Boys coaches are volunteers and the girls coaches are paid a small stipend.
Lacrosse at the State level: ● Lacrosse has been a fast growing sport across Illinois for both boys and girls. ● DGS and DGN entered the lacrosse teams in the IHSA each year and competed in the first state series in 2018-19. (DGS hosted super-sectional)
Rationale For Recommendation ● It is difficult to find coaches who volunteer and/or receive small stipends ● Feedback from participant families regarding the disparity between the fee for lacrosse ($400) and the general athletic fee ($117) ● The sport is continuing to grow at the local, state, and national level. ● The last funded sport added by D99 was boys volleyball around 1990. This provides more offerings for students.

General Challenges: ● Space (Indoor And Outdoor) ○ 9 spring sports (lacrosse is 10) ○ Busiest season ● Coaches On Teaching Staff (As a District we prefer Teacher-Coaches In Buildings) Initially, we will have a majority of out of building coaches.
Recommendation: Fund lacrosse with the current scheduling considerations: Maintain the current schedule for practices and games will remain ● the same (Glenbard West model) ● Continue seeking solutions for future rotation with other sports. ● Additional Fields (on and off campus) ● Additional lighting solutions
