THE OPPORTUNITY 2017 Division II National Championships Winter Festival • March 6 - 11, 2017 • Five (5) National Championships – Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track & Field – Men’s and Women’s Swimming & Diving – Wrestling
THE OPPORTUNITY • Number of Official Participants – 2014 Division II National Championships Fall Festival • 1,000 participants – 2016 Division II National Championships Spring Festival • 800 participants – 2017 Division II National Championships Winter Festival • 1,200 participants * Note – These numbers are solely reflective of NCAA official travel parties (i.e., student-athletes and coaches). These numbers exclude additional traveling administrators, fans, NCAA staff, vendors, and etc.

THE STRATEGY WHAT IS THE DIVISION II FESTIVAL? • Only NCAA championship concept where multiple, cross- disciplinary championships are crowned in a single event. • Event is held every year while rotating the season of sports to include fall, winter and spring championships. • The 2014, 2016 and 2017 Festivals will be the 8 th , 9 th and 10 th events hosted by the NCAA, respectively. • More than 6,433 student-athletes have participated to date. • Previous hosts have included: Orlando, FL; Pensacola, FL; Houston, TX; Louisville, KY; and, Birmingham, AL.
THE STRATEGY GOALS OF THE DIVISION II FESTIVAL • The goal of the NCAA Division II National Championships Festivals is to enhance the student-athlete collegiate experience and to create more exposure for NCAA Division II sports. • The Division II Festival agenda is also designed to positively impact the lives of the great community in which the event is held through education, community engagement and various experiences held in conjunction with the championships.
THE STRATEGY WHAT MAKES THE FESTIVAL UNIQUE? • Olympic-style event with opening and closing ceremonies. • Community engagement initiatives. • Centrally-located and shared hotels for student-athletes / student-athlete village concept. • Social opportunities for student-athletes: – Daily provided breakfasts; – Interactive student-athlete lounges; and, – Student-athlete study lounges.

THE BID LET’S HOST A NCAA DIVISION II FESTIVAL IN YOUR CITY!
THE BID CHAMPIONSHIP FACILITIES • Championship quality venues. • Availability of venues for duration of Festival schedule. • Ample fan seating. – Bid specifications outline each championships seating capacities. • Proximity of venues to one another. – Preference of no more than 20 minutes separating venues. • Adequate and experienced staffing for venues.
THE BID HOSTS • Experienced host(s). – Preference of Division II host member institution/conference • Development of a local organizing committee (LOC) for Festival. • Large volunteer base. • Dedicated tournament manager to serve as Festival coordinator. – Also, individual championship tournament managers • Creative and embracing.
THE BID HOTELS • Full-service properties • Minimal number of team/participant hotel properties. • Close proximity of hotel properties, if using more than one. – Preference of no more than 5-10 minutes away. • Adequate ancillary space at hotels (minimum of 15,000 square- feet for two rooms). – Breakfast areas – Student-athlete interactive and study lounges – Headquarters property only: NCAA operations room – Additional requests for space may be contracted following site visit(s).
THE BID ANCILLARY EVENTS • Opening and closing ceremonies. – Provide creative/unique space or venue options within bid to host events – Provide a recommendation of the format of the event • Banquet style • Reception style • Formal Program • Get Creative! • VIP Reception. – Provide creative/unique space or venue options within bid to host events • A preferred different location than opening or closing ceremonies venue(s)
THE BID COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT • Provide an initial listing of possible community engagement initiatives in your community. • Consider ways to incorporate benefits for your community and lasting impacts for your local citizens. • Highlight the ways in which the NCAA student-athletes experience would be elevated at the Division II Festival in your city.
THE BID LOCAL SUPPORT AND CULTURAL/CITY FLARE • Emphasize ways NCAA student-athletes would received support from the community. – Youth/club sports programs in the area – Media market • Highlight the uniqueness of your city and cultural aspects that NCAA student-athletes could experience.
