Trinity Brewer - Ambassador Girl Scout Discussion Purpose Troop #157 - Mission Viejo In an essay contest two years ago, Trinity and five other Girl Scouts from around the country were selected as models for the 2020 boxes and travelled to the Girl Scout headquarters in New York for the photoshoot. Today, her newfound notoriety has resulted in print and TV media attention. "It's such an honor to be featured on the new Girl Scout cookie boxes," Trinity said in a recent interview. "I've been a Girl Scout and selling cookies since Daisies and just to see how far I've come is incredible. This experience made my year extra special, because I finally hit my lifelong 10,000 cookie box sale goal last season. The photoshoot itself was a unique experience and so much fun!“ In addition to being an active Girl Scout for the last 12 years, Trinity, a junior at Mission Viejo High School, loves volunteering in the community, participating in STEM activities and playing softball and volleyball. She certainly is an inspiration! ~ Patch, Mission Viejo January 29,2020
Shayda Roshdieh - Ambassador Girl Scout Discussion Purpose Aku Aku Troop #330 - Yorba Linda “The Destination program has provided a multitude of opportunities for me, not only through the places I have traveled but through the experiences and friendships that I have made that I will never forget. From the most recent Destination, India, I am still in constant communication with the group of girls that I traveled with and we plan to meet up again sometime in the future. Aside from friendships, I have been able to learn about a variety of different cultures around the world as well as learn more about women's roles in other countries. Preparing for CSW (United Nations Commission on the Status of Women) has been one of the most influential opportunities of my life. In every webinar, we learned more about global inequality, democratic backsliding, and the role of women in places around the world. Although CSW was canceled due to COVID-19 just a few weeks ago, the information that I have gained from the experience will stay with me forever and I will continue to fight for global equality. After being in Girl Scouts for the past twelve years, I have been greatly impacted in a variety of positive ways. Years of selling cookies and leading events with my troop have given me a sense of independence, something that I can always thank Girl Scouts for. Also, because of Destinations and other wild opportunities, I know that I will continue to support the Girl Scouts organization and always encourage others with young girls to join.” 2
Saachi Pavani – Senior Girl Scout – Troop #990 - Irvine Discussion Purpose Hi everyone, my name is Saachi Pavani. I’m 16 years old, and I’m a Girl Scout Senior from Troop 990 in Irvine. I’ve been a Girl Scout for almost seven years now and I’m excited to share with you the opportunities I’ve had to be a leader as an older Girl Scout. I am one of the three Girl Advisory Members, about to serve my second term in this position. I feel very fortunate to have the voice to be able to advocate for the 20,000 Girl Scouts of Orange County, helping to improve the experience for girls and adults alike. As an older Girl Scout, I have been able to explore various different possibilities in STEM. I participated in the first STEM Tank series developed by GSOC’s STEM Consortium, in which I was able to learn how to develop a sound business plan by attending workshops at several esteemed companies such as PAAMCO, Ingram Micro, Western Digital, Capital Group, and Cox Communications. After being given the opportunity to later pitch our business ideas to the heads of these influential companies, I was able to discover my interest in pursuing a career in STEM and playing a role in closing the gender gap in the field. I am also working on my Gold Award, a project called Stop the Bleed. In an increasingly violent society, it is important for community members to be equipped with tools for staying safe during emergency situations such as school shootings, where bystanders must step in and help each other before the professionals arrive. I partnered with the national awareness campaign Stop the Bleed to teach my community essential first aid skills that could potentially save lives in the future. My Gold Award project has taught me how important it is to stay prepared in any situation. Most recently, I have been given the opportunity to be a voting member at GIRL 2020 National Convention in Orlando, Florida later this year. I look forward to this experience to be able to discuss ways to support the All-Girl initiative and how to include all girls in leadership experiences that can create a huge, positive impact on our local and global communities. I am thankful for the Girl Scout program because I am provided with valuable and challenging leadership opportunities that allow me to discover my interests and grow into the go-getter I wish to be.
Sabine Lerner - Ambassador Girl Scout Discussion Purpose Troop #3460 Amphitrite – Tustin I’ve been a Girl Scout for 12 years, since Kindergarten. I am fortunate to have participated in many amazing Girl Scout opportunities. I am in Troop 3460 – Amphitrite in the Tustana Service Unit. Girl Scouts has given me many opportunities to be a leader. I am our troop’s GAM Officer on Deck (OD) and have been the girl Director for our Junior Jamboree for the past two years. Last year I went on a Girl Scout Destination to Costa Rica and Panama to do service and work with turtle conservation. I am in the final stages of my Gold Award Project, The Other Side of STEM. The issue that I addressed is the lack of traditional based sciences in elementary school curriculum when learning about STEM. Through my Gold Award Project I was able to truly see how much Girl Scouts has benefited me. I look forward to becoming a Gold Award Girl Scout. I’ve been honored to be a Girl Board Advisory member for the past 2 years and I am looking forward to my 3 rd term. I am very excited and proud to have been chosen as one of only 16 Girl Scouts in the U.S. to represent Girl Scouts at the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women. Girl Scouts has allowed me to make friendships that will last a lifetime, be confident in myself and my abilities, has helped me to face my fears and become a confident leader.
Sierra Schulz - Ambassador Girl Scout Discussion Purpose Troop #1082 - Irvine “Sierra has been a member of our troop at the Orange County Rescue Mission since she joined as a 4th grade Junior. She is so dedicated to Girl Scouts that she stayed in our troop even after she moved out of the Rescue Mission. She has loved attending Camp Scherman since 4th grade, and spent the past two summers in the Counselor in Training I and II programs. The outdoors is a safe space for Sierra, and at camp she learned that it's okay to be herself and to be proud of who she is and what she can do. At camp she learned how to try new things and broaden her horizons, a skill that has served her well in other areas, such as when she traveled with our troop to Our Cabana in Mexico this year. She earned her Bronze and Silver Awards, giving back to her community with the skills she learned in Girl Scouts.” ~ From Elaine Murphy, Troop Leader "At camp, I was able to be independent. I learned how to be a leader and take risks. I also got to do tons of fun new things like hiking, boating, and cooking. Because of my experience at camp, I opened up as a person and as a Girl Scout. Camp is important. For some people it’s the only place they can truly be themselves and become better." ~ Sierra, Troop 1082
Thank you for your generous support of Girl Scouts in Orange County! 6
