  1. Enrollment in Denver Public Schools 2019-2020 School Year OFFICE OF CHOICE & ENROLLMENT SERVICES (OCES)

  2. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ENROLLMENT AT DPS? Grades K-12: Any student residing in the City and County  of Denver is guaranteed a seat at the neighborhood school or at one of the schools within the enrollment zone that is associated with their address. ECE3 & ECE4: NOT guaranteed. Enrollment based on  space available. Families with ECE3, ECE4, and kinder students are charged  tuition. Tuition rates for the 2019-2020 school year are not  published yet, but tuition rates for the 2018-2019 year can give you an idea.

  3. WHAT DO YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ENROLLMENT AT DPS IF YOU RESIDE OUTSIDE OF THE CITY AND COUNTY OF DENVER? Students residing outside the City and County of Denver  are not guaranteed a seat in DPS; but they’re welcome to attend a DPS school! For K-12 students who participate in the Round 1 lottery as  an out-of-district resident and then move into the DPS district, please connect with the Office of Choice and Enrollment and we’ll rerun the lottery algorithm for your student. Second option: Right to neighborhood school or school in  Zone. For ECE students, we’ll reset priorities as appropriate.  ECE3, ECE4, and kinder: No tuition assistance available;  cost per month will be the out-of-district amount.

WHAT IS S CHOOL C HOICE ?  SchoolChoice was created in an effort to provide an equitable process to access schools for all Denver families.  1 online application and 1 deadline.  Electronic lottery process; students are “stacked” into priority groups and then ranked within priority groups by lottery number.  Students are awarded a seat at their most highly preferred school with an available seat.  If their most highly preferred school is not available, the student is placed on a live waitlist for any school ranked more highly than their accepted school; lower ranked school choices are cancelled.

  5. WHO SHOULD PARTICIPATE IN S CHOOL C HOICE ??  All transitioning students for the 19-20 school year:  ECE3, ECE4, and Kinder applicants  5 th graders going to 6 th grade  8 th graders going to 9 th grade  Any current DPS student wanting to attend a different DPS school for 19-20 school year.  Any new student wanting to attend a DPS school.  SchoolChoice begins January 15, 2019 and ends February 15, 2019 at 4:00 pm!

  6. ENROLLMENT ZONES/SHARED BOUNDARY  No single school is assigned to a particular address. There are multiple schools in that zone.  Student must participate in the online SchoolChoice process to select a school.  Student will receive a seat at one of the schools in the shared boundary depending on family preference and availability.

  7. QUALIFICATION SCHOOLS  Some school will require additional steps for enrollment.  Examples:  Dual language schools  Highly Gifted and Talented programs  Denver School of the Arts  TJ’s CCTM  Kunsmiller Creative Arts Academy

  8. HOW DO FAMILIES RESEARCH SCHOOLS IN DPS? Consider the neighborhood school  Research options:  DPS School Finder  Enrollment Guide  Regional Expos  Visit Schools, Tours, Open Houses  The online SchoolChoice application must be  completed and submitted by 4:00PM on February 15, 2019.

  9. S CHOOL C HOICE APPLICATION  New Students:  Families will need to upload:  Proof of address with service address  Proof of birth  Current Students (K-12):  Document upload not required unless there has been an address change.

TUITION-BASED PROGRAM APPLICATION  ECE-3/Kinder:  Must be 3 (ECE-3) or 5 (Kinder) years old by October 1, 2019  ECE-4:  Must be 4 years old by October 1, 2019  Families will need to upload:  Proof of address with service address  Proof of birth  30 consecutive days of proof of income for all parents/guardians listed on the application

TUITION DOCUMENTS  Proof of Address:  Utility bill which states “service”, “property”, or “premise” address  Denver Housing Authority invoice  Current mortgage statement  Property tax document  Lease or rental agreement Must be current  check the dates! ALL Documents Must Have: Parent’s/guardian’s name OR Property owner’s name + landlord letter

  12. TUITION DOCUMENTS  Proof of income (4 year old ECE only):  Regular pay checks (30 consecutive days)  Social Security letters  SNAP benefit statement  TANF award statement  Disability income  W-2 for 2018  Letter from employer in letterhead (Not handwritten)

POST ROUND 1 DATES  Round 1 Notifications:  Late March  Families will be notified by emails/texts.  Round 2:  April (exact dates TBD) – August, 2019  Families will use the Choice online application to participate in Round 2  There are priorities in Round 2, but no lottery number. Students are stacked in their priority group, but ranked by 1 st come, 1 st served date / time stamp.

  14. IMPORTANT DATES DATES: INFO: January – School Tours, Open Houses, Information Nights. February January 15, 2019 SchoolChoice Round 1 Begins! February 15, 2019 Last day to complete the online application is 4:00pm! Families will not be able to submit applications after this deadline. Late March Families are notified of their school assignment. April SchoolChoice Round 2 begins. The online SchoolChoice application will be available for families.
