  2. BIOGRAPHY David Mach was born in a town called Methil on the eastern coast of Scotland on the 18 th of March 1956. He is a Scottish sculptor and installation artist, mainly known for his work with coat hangers and match heads, although he is known to work with many more mass produced objects. Many of his installations are temporary and often constructed in public places.

  3. This piece is called the Zurich Gorilla, it is made out of thousands of coat hangers. I find David’s work extremely interesting, his style is very unique.

  4. DAVID MACH DIE HARDER SCULPTURE This is a dramatic sculpture of Jesus on the cross, it was put on display in Southwark Cathedral The dramatic sculpture was made from 3,000 coat hangers with the hooks straightened so they appear to be sticking out of the body.

  5. David Mach was not only famous for his coat hanger sculptures, but he also did amazing work using colour matchstick Gandhi Charlie Chaplin heads. He created many different characters and people, including Charlie Chaplin, Betty Boop and many more. Blue Betty Sabre Tooth Tiger

  6. David Mach ‘You lose the colour but you liked to open different shades of ash, his different greys and blacks. It’s exhibitions by a real ferocious act of setting his creation. You don’t lose it, match head what you get is another thing.’ work on fire, - David Mach but despite the hours of work he put into them, he claims not to be destroying his art, but creating new art.

  7. KING SILVER David Mach created this enormous Gorilla, it was put on display at the entrance at the V&A exhibition ‘Power of Making’. The first thing I notice about this sculpture is the scale and detail, standing nearly 10feet tall, this towers over people as they enter the exhibition. But the amount of detail put into this is amazing, to be able to create this kind of detail with coat hangers is incredible. I think this was made by studying a photograph (or maybe multiple photos) of a gorilla which was then recreated into this sculpture. If you look closely enough at this piece, you can see the lines from the coat hangers, but from a distance it looks like all one piece with hooks sticking out.

  8. DAVID MACH'S TRAIN David Mach did other things aside from coat hanger and matchstick sculptures, as seen here in his sculpture he named “Train”, which was created in 1997 and is placed along in A66 in Darlington. It is made with 185,000 local “Accrington Nori” bricks and it commemorates Darlington’s heritage as “home of the railways”. It took 34 people 21 weeks to create this sculpture, and even includes 20 special “bat” bricks to encourage bats to nest there.
