Who We Are – The mission of CPNP is to promote excellence in pharmacy practice, education and research to optimize treatment outcomes of individuals affected by psychiatric and neurologic disorders – The CPNP Foundation envisions a world in which individuals with psychiatric and neurologic disorders receive optimal treatment, live free of stigma, and achieve their full potential cpnpf.org cpnp.org/member/toolkit/outreach
Chapter Goals – Promote mental health awareness and combat the stigma associated with mental illness – Participate in community events benefitting psychiatric and neurologic research – Educate patients about psychiatric medications – Provide thought-provoking speakers and event programming to foster learning and discussion among members

Come Walk With Us – Walk to End Alzheimer's Saturday, September 15, 2018 – Alzheimer’s Associations largest event worldwide to raise funds and awareness for – alzheimer’s support, care, and research – Walk For Hope Sunday, October 14, 2018 – Benefits the Foundation For Hope, which funds the research and treatment of – mental illness
Psych Emergency Dept PMEG – CPNP-run PMEG in the Psych ED is New this year – Other existing PMEGs include Eating Disorder Unit, 3rd Floor Neuroscience, Adolescent Unit – Perks of being in CPNP? – CPNP members get first priority for volunteering – Opportunity to interact with and teach different groups of psychiatric inpatients – Valuable patient care experiences early on – Looks great on your CV
Outreach Committee Opioid presentation to local high schools - last year we presented to two local high schools in the spring - about the dangers of using opioids illegally very rewarding experience reaching out to teenagers - great opportunity to work on presentation skills to a different - age group
New Events for 2018-2019 – Lunch at Club Nova (clubnova.org) – Collaboration with the Student Pharmacist Opioid Misuse Prevention Task Force – Mindfulness sessions – Self care seminars – Shadowing at a Neurology Clinic – More to come! (We are very open to any suggestions!)

A Pharmacist’s Role • As a clinical pharmacy practitioner (CPP) seeing patients in clinic, you begin to ask: ● What is the benefit/risks of duplicate therapy (i.e. 2 antidepressants)? ● Which agent is the patient seeking the most benefit? ● How should we cross-taper one of the antidepressants to simplify the regimen? ● What should we communicate with the PCP in regards to duplicate therapy? ● How does a patient’s medical comorbidities and other medications affect/contribute to their current psychiatric state? ● How can we either simply the regimen, choose less expensive but effective agents, and/or investigate options for patient to be able to afford her medications (PAPs, drug discount cards, picking generics with similar mechanisms)?
Academia • Coordinate pharmacotherapy course and Psychiatric Elective, teach psychiatry/neurology content in other courses • Apply foundational content to real-world neuropsychiatric patient case scenarios • Student/Resident involvement ● Clinical teaching/Precepting in ambulatory care psychiatric clinic ● Advisor for student and resident presentations related to psychiatric content ● Advisor for CPNP UNC Student Chapter • Scholarship in practice and education ● Psychiatric practice and dissemination of psychiatric content
Community Service • Participate and oversee involvement of pharmacy students in outreach opportunities for patients with mental illness, patient’s caregivers, and other consumers in the community • Medication education • Attendance and presentation at National Alliance for Mental Illness (NAMI) regional conference • Annual NAMI NC Walk for Hope • UNC Medical Center Mental Health Fair
Role as Faculty Advisor • Support the mission and goals of the chapter • Ensure goals align with CPNP National and compliance with collegiate chapter bylaws ● Serve as a liaison between the chapter and CPNP National • Foster the continued development of the Student chapter • Facilitate and identify new opportunities for chapter that promote chapter goals ● Newsletter article- CPNP Perspectives or Mental Health Clinician ● Local outreach- NAMI, UNC Medical Center ● Collaborations with other chapters (newsletter article, research project) ● Student grants for research and/or travel/registration to CPNP Annual meeting • Be an advocate and guide students to serve as advocates for those living with psychiatric and neurologic disorders • Share and promote accomplishments of the chapter with others!
