  3. Why Do All of This? OPTIONS FOR YOUR FUTURE Employment : In today’s world it is more difficult to go directly to work  after high school. It is difficult to earn a good wage because high school alone doesn’t provide enough training to compete in this highly technical environment. Technical College : With society so dependent on skilled workers, the  technical college will play a major role in employment. These colleges provide intensive training in specific skill areas and take less time for program completion. Education here can be transferred to other colleges for further study. 2/4 Year Colleges : No matter what college you attend, you must be  both prepared and willing to pay. It is important you not only feel comfortable with where you are going but also set goals and have a specific idea of a career path. The Military : The military provides intensive skills training as well as  leadership training.

How do I get/send a copy of my transcript?  Mrs. Froome in the student center can print and send transcripts.  You must have a written release on file for Mrs. Froome to release your transcript.  Releases can be picked up in the student center. Parent signature is required if you are under 18.  Official transcripts will be sealed and stamped (do not open).

Qualified Admissions Kansas Residents High School Graduates Academic Year 2015-2016 and After Five of the six state universities in Kansas, including Emporia State University, Fort Hays State University, Kansas State University, Pittsburg State University, and Wichita State University, use the standards below to review applicants for undergraduate admission. The University of Kansas has different admission standards from those listed below, visit admissions.ku.edu for more information. Standards are set by the Kansas Board of Regents. ACCREDITED HIGH SCHOOL If you are a Kansas resident who will graduate from an accredited high school during the 2019-2020 academic year or later, you can guarantee admission to five of the state’s universities by completing the Qualified Admissions or Kansas Scholars Curriculum with a 2.0 GPA and by meeting one of the following requirements: • ACT score of at least 21; OR • SAT score of at least 980; OR • Graduate in the top 1/3rd of your class. If you enroll in college courses while you are in high school, it is also required that you achieve a 2.0 GPA or higher in those courses.

  9. QUALIFIED ADMISSIONS PRE-COLLEGE CURRICULUM Kansas Course Codes are used to identify courses that fulfill Qualified Admissions curriculum requirements. A complete list of courses is available at the Kansas Board of Regents website: kansasregents.org/qualified_admissions. Additionally, your high school counselor has a list of courses at your high school that fulfill these requirements. One unit is equivalent to one year, or two semesters. Dual enrollment, concurrent enrollment, and online courses may be used to fulfill the Qualified Admissions curriculum requirements. All courses must appear on your high school transcript, and courses completed in middle school or junior high do not fulfill the Qualified Admissions Math requirements.   10. What is the Kansas Scholars Curriculum? The Kansas Scholars Curriculum is one of the requirements Kansas residents must meet in order to receive State Scholar designation during the Senior year. This curriculum is NOT the same as the Qualified Admissions Curriculum. What are the other requirements to become a State Scholar? • Students must have taken the ACT between April of the sophomore year and December of the senior year. • Students must be a Kansas resident. • Students must have their curriculum and 7 th semester GPA certified on the official roster by the high school counselor, registrar, or similar official. What is the benefit of completing the Kansas Scholars Curriculum? Students that complete the curriculum, and meet the other requirements, may be designated as State Scholars, which makes them eligible to receive State Financial Aid as provided by the Kansas Legislature.

  11. What is the Kansas Scholars Curriculum? (cont.) The academic profile of scholars included an average ACT of 30 and an average GPA of 3.90. State Scholars may receive up to $1,000 annually for up to four undergraduate years (five, if enrolled in a designated five-year program) based on financial need and the availability of State funds. How is financial need determined? Financial need is measured by the Federal Methodology using data submitted on the FAFSA.

A fourth year of science is recommended. Social Science Same as the Qualified Admissions Curriculum. Foreign Language 2 approved units of one foreign language.

Core Courses: (16) Initial full-time collegiate enrollment on or after August 1, 2016: o Sixteen (16) core courses are required (see chart below for subject-area requirements). • Ten (10) core courses completed before the seventh semester; seven (7) of the 10 must be in English, math or natural/physical science. Test Scores: (ACT/SAT) Division I has a sliding scale for test score and grade-point average. The sliding scale can be  found online.  Division II has a minimum SAT score requirement of 820 or an ACT sum score of 68. SAT: critical reading and math sections. Best subscore from each section is used to determine the SAT combined score for initial  eligibility. ACT: English, math, reading and science sections. Best subscore from each section is used to determine the ACT sum score for initial eligibility.  Enter 9999 during ACT or SAT registration to ensure the testing agency reports your score directly to the NCAA Eligibility Center. Test scores on transcripts will not be used .

  14. Core Grade-Point Average:  Only core courses that appear on the high school's List of NCAA Courses on the NCAA Eligibility Center's website (www.eligibilitycenter.org) will be used to calculate your core-course GPA. Use this list as a guide. Initial full-time collegiate enrollment on or after August 1, 2016:  Students must present a corresponding test score (ACT sum score or SAT combined score) and core-course GPA (minimum 2.300) on Sliding Scale B (see Page No. 2).  Core-course GPA is calculated using the best 16 core courses that meet both progression (10 before seventh semester; seven in English, math or science; "locked in") and subject-area requirements.
