Purpose Of The Group • Provide local support in Burton and the surrounding area for patients, families, carers, supporters • Provide a lifeline of support from initial diagnosis to recovery and beyond • Raise awareness of Bowel Cancer and its symptoms
MISSION STATEMENT Our mission is to offer you a lifeline of support from initial diagnosis throughout your journey and beyond. We can do this by: • Helping you come to terms with the impact of the diagnosis and treatment • Providing a safe and welcoming environment to share your worries and fears • Offering support to families, carers and supporters • Giving you the opportunity to meet other people who are, or have been, in a similar situation • Signposting you to other partners who can provide resources and strategies for enhancing the quality of your life
A PATIENT LED GROUP • Surveys of patients identified a need in the local area • Initial Engagement End November 2018 – Expressions of Interest • Trustees/Committee Established January 2019 – 7 Committee Members • Initial Funding From Macmillan (£1,880) & Burton Hospital (£300) • Run for patients by patients • Not Hospital or Medical/Clinical Advice - but we can signpost you • Patient Peer Support Group • Burton has 150-180 new cases of Bowel Cancer every Year • Constitution established with Support Staffordshire • Charitable Unincorporated Association • Training Identify For Committee
CONSTITUTION • To provide local support • Good quality information and helping patients, carers and families come together to help alleviate worries, fears, share ideas and experiences to enhance best possible quality of life, regardless of the stage of illness • We fully understand that facing a diagnosis and treatment alone can be scary • We are here to help and support
