Camden Interpreting Provision Camden is committed to ensuring all Camden Residents have high quality, cost effective access to interpreting support that matches their needs A review has been undertaken to assess current services This presentation outlines proposals for changes to interpreting support

Demand in Camden Background Ethnic Density by Ward • 34% of residents are from black or minority ethnic groups • In every ward 20% are from black and minority ethnic groups • The top 5 languages supported are: Bengali 69% Spanish 3% Arabic 8% Somali 2% Farsi 5% • 2018/19 Camden spend on all primary care interpreting support was £410k • Over 8,000 face-to-face appointments were made in 2018/19

Current Provision Across NCL Camden Spoken Language • 96% of activity is face-to-face and 4% telephone • In 2018/19 interpreter supported clinics were introduced for high use practices Sign Language • Face-to-face support only. • Cost for a BSL interpreter is £160 per session Other NCL CCG Provision Spoken Language • Barnet, Enfield and Haringey use telephone support for routine appointments and Face to Face for complex issues Sign Language • Barnet, Enfield and Haringey provide have introduced video conferencing for routine appointments
