Lighthouse Project My main goal with the project was to create a scene which was captivating inside and out, during both the day and the night. When brainstorming ideas, I was immediately drawn to the idea of a lighthouse. Not only did it fit the required guidelines for the project, but it also gave me a unique opportunity to play with not only modeling, but really concentrate on lighting and material techniques. As the semester progressed, I realized that I had much to learn about playing with the aforementioned materials and lighting. The idea never changed, and I pushed through the many struggles that arose, including a complete computer failure. In the end, I found that I still have much to learn in this almost infinite subject of materials and understanding lighting, but that I am pleased with my progress and my work that I have produced. The end result is a contemporary lighthouse model that is placed in a not so typical scene. The feeling at first is drastic, but ultimately allowed me to create that captivation in which I originally sought after.
precedents Many different lighthouses were searched in order to find the style that I was looking for. Ultimately I took a mix of many of the styles in order to create a unique look without being too odd from the norm.

Modeling All modeling for the project was produced in Rhinoceros. The basic train of thought was to finish the main body of the exterior, and then work on the details. The majority of the forms that make up the structure are derived from simple modeling techniques. Basic shapes were then combined and boolean operations were performed in order to finish up the modeling. The contrast of simplistic shapes is what makes the lighthouse so easy to recognize.
Modeling details One of the first issues that I ran into along the way was managing my layers and dealing with the great amount of objects I had for my project. The easiest way for me to deal with this was to split the elements into more general categories and then break them down further in order to be able to easily handle and manage my file.
