An Introduction to Los Cabos Drumsticks • Formed as a company in 2005 by long-time woodworker Larry Guay and his wife Gillian. • Based in Hanwell, New Brunswick, a suburb of the capital city of Fredericton. • The company has experienced considerable industry growth every year since its formation. • Los Cabos Drumsticks takes its name from a Spanish term meaning, the Cape. With its distinct coastline of capes and inlets stretching from Quebec’s Gaspé Peninsula to the northern tip of the state of Maine, the name reflects both the unique qualities of our home province and the wide and diverse world of music and musicians we serve.

Our Marketing Strategy Social Media • The majority of our marketing is based on social media strategies. Using the most popular social media tools available, we develop direct relationships with retailers, musicians, and music lovers around the world. • We produce monthly online publications which are distributed to thousands of newsletter subscribers, retailer managers, distributors, and media. o Backbeat is our monthly newsletter. Each month we share news, events and contest with our readership. o Video Blog: we produce a short in-house video blog once a month sharing information on the latest artists to join the family as well as some occasional behind the scenes footage. Contacts • Website: www.loscabosdrumsticks.com • Blog: www.loscabosdrumsticks.tumblr.com • Twitter: @ loscabossticks • Facebook: www.facebook.com/loscabosdrumsticks Print Publications • All press releases announcing new product, new distributors, new artists, and related newsworthy events are distributed to all leading musical instrument and drum publications. • We provide many of these articles and features for viewing on our website under the media section.
Hands-on Manufacturing • Our sticks are manufactured in short runs of 500 pairs on average, per individual model. This allows for greater quality control as we can oversee each individual stick from lathe to pairing, printing and shipping. Short run production allows for hands-on inspection of each stick as it comes out of the lathe. All our sticks are loaded by hand into the sander and finish tumbler. Finally, all our sticks are hand-rolled, printed, weighed, paired and packaged by the same individual to ensure production quality standards are maintained throughout the entire process.
Media Feedback • “…the models are well-made, sound and perform great, and have a smooth, comfortable feel.” – Billy Brennan, Modern Drummer • “In five short years, Los Cabos has gone from a newcomer to one of Canada’s premier drumstick makers.” – Zach Phillips, Music Inc. • “Los Cabos have outgrown two manufacturing facilities, settling into a 6000 square-foot facility near Fredericton that’s capable of spinning 1800 drumsticks a day…” – Brad Wheeler, The Globe and Mail • “Los Cabos is poised to become a powerful voice in the drumstick market.” – DRUM Magazine • “…we’re confident that once people start playing them, they’ll love them.” – Sean Murtagh, Summerfield Musical Instruments
Case Studies • Long & McQuade are Canada’s largest musical instrument retailer with over 50 stores across the country. For the year ending March 2011, the chain reported that Los Cabos Drumsticks were the only drumstick line to experience growth among the lines they carry which include Vic Firth and Promark respectively. • Los Cabos Drumsticks was recognized by the international community at the 2011 Musikmesse in Frankfurt. The annual Musical Instrument Press Awards (MIPA) recognizes companies who have gained substantial media attention for their products over the previous year. Although Los Cabos didn’t take the award home, to be nominated alongside Vic Firth and Regal Tip was a substantial win in itself.
