MENTAL HEALTH IN YOUNG PEOPLE • 1 in 3 young people – so 10 in every classroom has a mental health problem. • 43% of 16 year olds from ‘less well off’ reported they had serious personal emotional/ mental health problems – nearly half of a classroom. • Teenage rates of depression and anxiety have increased by 70% in the past 25 years. • Only 25% of young people needing treatment actually receive it. ‘BOXCLEVER’ • The ‘BOXCLEVER’ Programme established in 2012, started MBC’s work in the community. Addressing educational underachievement was, and still is, a key priority for the programme • It’s based on a Youth work approach /mentoring and working alongside the young people
