Context This is an ad hoc committee: Committee formed on an as-needed basis to address specific, time-limited tasks In December 2010, Council identified a growth area for the program How investigators involved advocates in their projects (IDEAs and Translational Awards)
Context Specifically there were concerns that Advocates were not being compensated for their time Same advocates were named in applications repeatedly Advocacy Involvement Committee formed in Spring 2011
Charge of the Committee To improve advocate participation in CBCRP research This committee will oversee development of resources to assist advocates and investigators and revision of grant application and implementation procedures

2011 – 2013: Development of Resources Webinars for investigators and advocates Implemented each cycle, after accepted LOI notifications go out Advocate registration For interested advocates To allow CBCRP to connect investigators and advocates Frequently Asked Questions Documents For advocates and investigators Staff Resources
2011 – 2013: Revision of Procedures: Changes in Application Requirements Over Time 2 0 1 1 & 2 0 1 2 2 0 1 3 Mtg betw een PI and Advocate qualifications Advocate biosketch advocate prior to Advocacy Involvement section subm ission Detailed description of in application Line to name advocate(s) how advocates w ill be Letter of commitment/ MOU involved Letter of support Advocate compensation and Com pensation justification included in budget
Additional Accomplishments Staff pulled together and Committee reviewed evaluation data from 2011-2014 Developed and implemented Advocate and Scientist reporting forms and instructions – included in yearly progress and final scientific reports for projects 2015-2017: Develop Investigator Training to shift thinking about value of advocate involvement in research
