Migration situation in Armenia The 90s marked with unprecedented volume of migratory flows - 1988 earthquake - more than 500.000 environmental migrants - 1989-1990 the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict - 420,000 refugees from Azerbaijan - IDPs - more than 72 000 people - 90s economic blockade and harsh social conditions - more than 1 million people

Foreigners - 4.2%. Reasons education - 41% ( mainly from Iran and India) family reunification - 30,1% (mainly from Russia) employment - 23,7% (mainly from Iran) enterprenurship - 0,17% (mainly from Iran)

  8. Remittances to Armenia � 53, 5% - remittances received by households with migrants abroad � 7,4% - remittances received by those without migrants abroad 86,6% - purchase of food/clothes 67, 7% - utility fees 34,1% - spent on health 31, 5% - debt payment 20,5 % -education
