  2. HOW CAN WE AS DESIGNERS HELP RAISE AWARENESS OF THE SERIOUS IMPACT OF ANIMAL CRUELTY AND TESTING IN THE COSMETIC AND FASHION INDUSTRY.

  3. HAVE YOU THOUGHT ABOUT IT? • What do animals have to go through? • How many of your products use animal testing? • Do you care enough to stop using those products? • How many animals have died for your cosmetics?

  4. Animal Testing and Medicine Issues such as ‘cruelty’ to animals and the humane treatment of animals are valid concerns, and hence, the use of animals in experimentation is greatly regulated. This has led to the 3Rs campaign, which advocates the search (1) for the replacement of animals with non-livingmodels; (2) reduction in the use of animals; and (3) refjnement of animal use practices. The Truth behind Animal Testing Truth behind animal testing article discusses the big argument of animal testing between those who believe animal testing yields many benefjts and those who oppose animal testing and its cruelty. The aim of this article is to ensure both sides are being represented fairly with each viewpoint backed up with the correct knowledge. The article further discusses the opposition, benefjts and alternatives to animal testing.

  5. Gender, Politics, And Animal Experimentation In Anna Barbauld’s “The Mouse’s Petition” When then, poor beastie article discusses the a poem from the eighteenth century that deals with the controversial status of animals being experimented. “The mouse Petition” is a poem of rare existence as during that period there was a lack of poetry for this subject. This journal article discusses three main arguments about the poem, the history of humanitarian sentiment, ethics and animal experimentation and multivalent reading of the poem. Each section has a unique view of animal cruelty and what is meant to society and how it effected both animals and humans. Animal Welfare: An Animal Science Approach This article discusses the important issue in recent years of animal welfare. The increasing demand for meat as a result of the rise of population numbers, breeding and producing has risen reaching the maximum yield that the genetic makeup of the animal permits. The aim for this article is to simply inform and make aware the importance animal welfare using a scientifjc approach. The article further discuses in-depth animal welfare in the world, animal welfare and its actual meaning, animal welfare and measurement, transportation and animal welfare and animal welfare in poultry production.

  6. Dan Witz - Empty the cages

  7. Jacqueline Traide - Lush Cosmetics

  8. Banksy - Sirens of the lambs

  9. Angelia Singer - Catch caught

  10. Jo Frederiks - Kill to Dress

  11. First peer critique of the animal testing posters. Tie sticky notes say: - Try a more positive approach, might be more inviting for viewers. - Needs more white space -Change font. Use more professional typeface -Be more subtle. -Great strapline, use them on all of the posters -Vertical posters? -Do animals actually get decapitated or severed limbs? -A bit creepy and hard to read red text -Sometimes a positive approach is more powerful then negative -Great concept, try a more professional poster approach instead

  12. Feedback on sticky notes: - great! - Fabulous – Mixture of light colours with dark theme is great - Clear message but the image style needs to be developed - Love the juxtaposition - Image overlay is a bit distracting. Have a short blurb or something at bottom - Tie play on slogans may have been more depth and eye catching as headings

  13. FINAL OUTCOME

  14. REFLECTIVE PROGRESS • Research Research Research • Having a narrow subject is sometimes too narrow • Sometimes peers review can be confusing just go with gut feeling and what works best • Selected mixed media as my medium • Using barbie dolls, stuffed toys and faux fur coats • NOT making a video (Not my strong point) • Will use photographs to create poster outcome
