A day in the life... • Start at one high school and finish at another. This was good in theory, but it doesn't always happen! • Travel to other buildings in the district arranging for our students to work with younger students. Also work with counselors, principals, students on bullying issues or ATOD issues.

InSight- An educational program for students and parents; offered for students who violate the district drug and alcohol policy as a buy down for days of suspension; consists of 3 - two hour sessions held on an as need monthly basis • ATOD Basics • Precursors to addiction • Perception vs. Reality • Progression of Use • Disconnecting to Reconnect • Active Parenting Pointers and Homework

PLC- Exploring Mental Health Agencies in Central Ohio • Working in conjunction with the middle school guidance counselors, I toured various mental health agencies and drug and alcohol treatment facilities. The goal of our PLC is to put together a comprehensive list of resources that can be given to families at a time of need. The list will provide up to date information, which will hopefully make the process of seeking help more manageable. • Sites visited: Dublin Springs, Neil Kennedy, Talbott Hall, Pomegranate Health Systems, Netcare, OSU Harding Hospital, Cornerstone of Hope, Directions for Youth, Children’s Behavioral Health, and Amigo Counseling.
Red Ribbon Week: "It Takes a Community - To Just Say No!" October 23rd and 30th Drug Safe Worthington And Worthington Schools • Present Offered two evenings of engaging “It Takes a Community…To Just Say No!” presentations about the current This two-night event is geared toward adults and high school students with the purpose of providing an honest look into the current drug drug culture within and surrounding culture within and around our community. our community Each night will feature a different compelling presentation , followed by a choice of two breakout sessions. These sessions are designed to educate parents and community members on both the logistical and legal issues surrounding alcohol and drug use. • Advertised to parents in the district, as well as all community TUESDAY, OCTOBER 23 members T omas Worthington High School Auditorium 6:00pm – 6:30pm Light Dinner* 6:30pm – 8:30pm “Turn Around” Performance (led by young adults in recovery) & Breakout Sessions • Dinner and child care were TUESDAY, OCTOBER 30 Worthington Kilbourne High School Auditorium 6:00pm – 6:30pm Light Dinner* provided by Drug Safe Worthington 6:30pm – 8:30pm “Tyler’s Light, Speak Up! Save a Life!” Presentation & Breakout Sessions volunteers and STAND student BREAKOUT SESSIONS O ff ered each night with choice of one session per night representatives “About the Law on Teenage Use of Alcohol and Other Drugs and on Adults Who Provide” “Recognize the Dangers of Alcohol, Marijuana, and Prescription Medicine Use by Teens” * A complimentary, light dinner will be provided to all who attend. Free child-care will be offered as well for children in grades K-6. Spread the word & get the message heard! Keep Worthington and our kids drug-safe.
S.T.A.N.D. • STAND - Students Taking a New Direction against drug and alcohol use is a newly formed group at Kilbourne High School. Students created the name and worked on a logo to represent the groups mission and goals. STAND students participated in the Red Ribbon Week Activities, marched and participated in the “We are the Majority” Rally at the State House, and helped work with Youth to Youth representatives during the pilot presentation “Turbulent Transition or Smooth Sailing?”.

• Pilot program held at Evening Street Elementary and Worthington Hills Elementary. • Organized with the help of Holly St. Myer, Penny Jones, Tamu Lucero, Mary Rykowski, and Cheryl Campbell of Youth to Youth. • Presented by Kathy Starks, guidance counselor at Kilbourne Middle School and myself. • OLAAT and STAND students participated in activities with the six grade students and Youth to Youth Leaders.
