About Artist-In-School Scheme (AISS) programme for Pre-Schools The Artist-In-School Scheme (AISS) for Pre-Schools is a partnership between National Art Council (NAC) and the Early Childhood Development Agency (ECDA) to enable pre-schoolers to gain access to quality and maintained arts programmes specially designed by arts practitioners. This program also develops customised arts experiences that deepens children’s and teachers’ engagement in and through the arts.
Our Journey with National Arts Council (NAC) Who were the participants? • 12 Skool-Ready Teachers (Nursery to K2) • Two K2 classes (43 children)
Workshop Programme Teacher’s Workshop: Children’s Workshop: 3 session of 3 hours • 1.5 hour for 6 sessions • ( 18 th , 19 th & 20 th (2 nd ,3 rd , 4 th , 9 th , June 2018) 10 th & 16 th July 2018) National Art Council (NAC) Artists Sun Jiun and April facilitated the workshop for both teachers and children.
Teacher’s Workshop Learning objectives: - To broaden the teachers’ horizons and expose them to different art media, and to allow them to display art skills more competently. - To equip teachers with the basic understanding of visual arts and to transfer accurate, fundamental art skills and knowledge for them to confidently integrate into their daily lesson. English and Chinese teachers underwent two separate sessions.
Art Techniques : Canvas Painting Description of the activity: • Different shapes and sizes of apples were used as a real life model for educators to observe prior to their canvas painting activity. • Shades and tones of colours were also taught by the artists to create a more life-like portrait of the apples.

Forms of Visual Art: Print Making Description of the activity: • Educator were taught to create art on a waterproof surface before placing the art block or other mediums to get an impression. • This form of print making can produce several copies at one go.

Forms of Visual Art: Sculpture Description of the activity: • It is a 3D artwork using open ended material. • Recycled materials such as bottles, caps, toilet rolls and paper clips are excellent medium to be used to create a sculpture.
Children’s Workshop Objectives: Get the children to understand the interaction between colours Allow children to explore with primary and secondary colours Learn art techniques such print making Understand the concept of mirror images Inspire children’s work with nature and reproduce images in art works
Art Form: Canvas Painting Description of the activity: • Children sketched out their animal of choice on the canvas using coloured chalk. • They then used masking tape to protect those lines. After which, they painted over it and the rest of the canvas. • Children finished off their canvas painting by adding lines to create patterns.
Art Form: Fabric Painting Description of the activity: • Children drew their choice of animal on a square piece of fabric. They then drew patterns using oil pastel on the fabric. • Batik ink was used to colour the sketched animal on the fabric. Children then filled the animal cushion with nylon. The completed animal cushion was sealed and fastened to a string and hung up as mobile.
Application in the Classroom We introduced techniques and styles to children when they are able to utilise objects or discern colours contrast. Enable the children to understand the interaction between colours and allowed them to explore with the primary and secondary colours. Summary It has been a great experience and successful collaboration with National Art Council (NAC) where educators and children benefited greatly from the programme. Art definitely brings in a sense of freedom and creativity for us to explore and experience with the different kinds of mediums. This programme certainly showed that there is no age limit to art. Thank you once again for the great opportunity to work together.
