IMPLEMENTING A GUIDED PATHWAYS FRAMEWORK
16-WEEK ACADEMIC CALENDAR
IT’S COMING!!!! A New Academic Calendar for DVC
WHO? Contra Costa Community Colleges District
WHAT? The college is moving from 18 week to 16 week semesters Same amount of instruction – just “compressed” into a 16 week schedule
WHEN? Starts in FA18 – First day is Aug 27
WHERE? At DVC’s Pleasant Hill and San Ramon Campuses (and at the other colleges in the district)
WHY? Traditional 18 week calendar is non-traditional – at least for colleges Longer class periods allow more time for in-depth discussion and active learning Studies indicate that students are at least as or more successful and less likely to withdraw from classes in compressed versus regular length courses – for both college and developmental level courses Options for intersessions give students more opportunities to complete their program requirements
