1 Western Road, S ilver End INTRODUCTION THE SITE INTRODUCTION Gladman Developments Ltd have successfully invested in communities throughout the UK over the past 20 years developing high quality and sustainable residential, commercial and industrial schemes. We are proposing a residential development of up to 350 new homes on land to the north of Western Road, Silver End. The proposals include land for a potential new primary school and playing pitches, extensive areas of open space including woodland planting, children’s play and links to the existing right of way network including the re-provision of existing permissable routes through the site in an enhanced environment. The purpose of this consultation process is to outline the details of the draft scheme and seek comments from the local community which will be considered before the planning application is lodged with Braintree District Council. SITE DESCRIPTION The site is located on the eastern edge of the village of Silver End and comprises ����������������������������������������������������������������������������� 16.79 hectares. The site is accessible off Western Road which forms its southern boundary. The dominant land use to the east and south of the site is agriculture ������������������������������������������������������������������������������� of woodland. To the north and west of the site is existing residential development, with village centre uses beyond this to the west. The A12 lies 2.25 miles to the south-east of the site, this leads onto the A120 to the north and A131 to the south- east. In the period from 1924 to 1955/6, Silver End had expanded and became the home of Crittall Windows. Many of the buildings dating back to this period are listed and are grouped around Silver Street, one of the key routes within the village.
