Relocation Allowance - comes directly from individual manager’s budget - any offer of relocation allowance determined by hiring manager - typically offered for permanent positions only Housing - Some rural sites provide lodging including utilities for a period of time. - Cost effective way to “try out” a community or support a move while you await a permanent residence - staff residences in WL, 100 Mile, Lillooet, Ashcroft, Clearwater, Cranbrook, Invermere - varies site by site, possible costs depending upon length of stay. 10

The are loads of additional resources on the internet on how to write a cover letter and resume, and how to prepare for an interview - use it! COVERING LETTER Include a date on your covering letter Ensure you are addressing the correct organization!!! Ensure you proof read and use spell check. Describe responsibilities with an emphasis on specific skills and achievements or accomplishments Do include other work experience you may have References With references, for this process we will be using your managers and preceptors indicated on your new grad prescreen as references For other positions with IH or applications you may submit down the road, it’s okay to list them when applying for IH as we don’t contact refs without authorization If applying elsewhere, be careful and show “references provided upon request”. 32

INTERVIEWING Be Prepared Do your research of the positions and the organization Bring extra copies of your resume, a pen and paper for writing, job posting Have a couple of questions to ask the panel when the interview is over Try and find out ahead of time who will be interviewing you so you know their names If you are not familiar with where you are being interviewed, you may want to find the location the day before Ensure you are 5 minutes early for the interview Search the internet for sample interview questions, there are hundreds. Make sure you can answer those questions. TURN OFF YOUR CELL PHONE. Dress for Success Clean and tidy and leave the jeans at home Ensure you have a good nights sleep the night before During the interview Be confident Shake hands Maintain eye contact Ensure you answer the question asked in the time allotted If you don’t understand the question, ask them to repeat it. Take time before answering to formulate your response Don’t bring the kitchen sink Don’t chew gum. Don’t ask how you did. Don’t undersell yourself, this is your time to shine. When its over When the interview is over, ask about the next recruiting step. When its over, thank everyone for their time. It’s a nice touch to send a thank you note to your interviewer. 35
